In terms of costume accessories, hats have to be one of the more enticing ways to add that extra bit of drama to your Halloween ensemble. As you are in the process of creating your perfect holiday look to celebrate “devil’s night” remember that hats are a great option for accessories.
Many people (I think these are primarily members of the British royal family, but I could be wrong.) find that hats are the perfect accessory to any outfit or occasion. They’re especially nice to add a bit of flare during my favorite time of year… you guessed it–Halloween. Hats, headdresses, tiaras and other head coverings can really “make” an outfit, and add the perfect finishing touch.
After all, what would Cleopatra be without her beaded headdress? Would anyone recognize Napoleon Bonaparte without his bicorne? What’s a sailor costume without an accompanying sailor hat? Think of all of the possibilities. Be it a fire fighter helmet, pirate hat, or Santa Claus, none of them are complete with out a their signature cap. I think not. As you are considering the best hat for you, keep in mind that many hats come in sizes. If you get your hat from a specialty maker, many times you can have a hat custom-sized to fit your head.
You’ll also want make sure that it is properly secured so you don’t have to worry about it falling off. For that, there are bands, clips and other customizing you can do to your hat to make it a worry-free evening. At the very least be sure to grab some extra bobby-pins to keep your hat in place. Hats are a very fun accessory to make homemade. A plain top hat can change into a women’s dazzler with the addition of strategically placed ribbons, jewels, feathers or flowers. A great kids activity would be to allow children to make paper hats to wear home, as well.
This year, as you look for the best way to express your chosen character don’t forget to add that well-selected hat to complete your Halloween outfit.
